So I am more than a bit miffed about Ron and Rand, the comics might get worse if this relationship develops. What concessions were made to get Rand to endorse Mitt? What further compromises will be made to Campaign for liberty? How the hell am I getting all these Robo-calls on my cell phone from the Republican party?
SOPA and PIPA are bad. They could make content go away. The NDAA can make people go away. If my content is deemed to aid in Terrorism, which is so loosely defined, that criticizing the president and the war can be deemed a terrorist act, I could disappear. I know it would suck to loose Wikipedia or Reddit, but it would suck even more to loose voices of dissent.
Ron Paul doesn’t like the NDAA, he even has legislation to get rid of it, here. Will Reddit black out for the NDAA. No. Because the NDAA will only silence the voices most people don’t like hearing any way.
Here is my situation. I vehemently oppose the SOPA legislation. It disgusts me to my core. The fact that Go Daddy helped write it and will profit from it makes me terribly disappointed in them. Back in the day I hosted some of my first sites on a small hosting company. They subsequently went under and I had no access to my sites nor could I transfer them to another company. A friend who worked for Go Daddy recommended I give them a call. The call went better than expected and Go Daddy handled everything, including regaining access to my domains at no extra charge. I am sure more credit goes to ICANN, however, Go Daddy facilitated the entire situation and my issue was resolved.
Yes their user interface sucks donkey nuts, but they have to make their money and I’m not an idiot so it never bothered me. I could switch, but would the support be as good? I have always been able to talk to very knowledgeable and non Ocean Marketing like people. I had one issue that couldn’t be resolved, however, the agent tried his best even though it was not with in the scope of Go Daddy’s abilities to help me as it was more of a web design issue. I am a very pleased Go Daddy customer, I just hate their politics. Similarly, I am a very pleased Nintendo customer, they also happen support SOPA. If I bail on Go Daddy not because they provided a crummy product but because of their politics, yet I stick with Nintendo, what does that say about me?
Switching from Go Daddy will cost me time and money I don’t have. If Half Man Half Monkey All Hero was my primary income and I had 1/10th the clout of Penny-Arcade I would do it in a nano second, mainly because I would just tell my IT guy to do it. But I am the artist-writer-IT-accountant-marketing-etc guy… and unfortunately this seams like a bandwagon I will have to be with in spirit, not in action.
As for Public Relations Paul, that kind of arrogance deserves a good smiting, so smite on. Just keep collateral damage to a minimum.
