Trek isn’t so much socialism as it is militant exploration. I like to think humanity finally ironed out the wrinkles of manifest destiny (expansionism) and started colonizing other planets in a very cooperative and ranked fashion (from what I understand it’s voluntary and the federation operates under a constitutional basis)…
But of course we’re still a bunch of monkeys in a tin can flying around screeching and throwing poop at the aliens we meet.

The federation may have been constitutional but Earth was a socialist society. This guy even clings to the idea, and refers to it as Utopian Socialism. They did away with money and transactions with unlimited energy and replicators, leaving only one goal for the citizens of earth to look forward to, their state sponsored militaristic rank in society. The Borg were a caricature on Communism and the Ferengi were a caricature of Capitalism, and boy did they make them ugly.
